We have used the services of Guardian Angel Concierge for the first time in June this year. Leanne Hayward looked after our apartment during our absence for five weeks.
 
After an initial meeting we left her a list of requirements, i.e. mail collection from P.O. Box, plant watering, feeding fish, etc, as well as a list of emergency contacts. We agreed on checking our apartment once a week and handed over our keys.
 
Leanne’s email reports arrived promptly every Friday after her visits, complete with a detailed list of all mail received. She opened two letters on our request to check their content.
 
After a pump failed, nearly draining our fish pond, Leanne immediately called the relevant number provided on the emergency list, thus preventing major trouble.
 
It was wonderful to come home to a fridge stocked with fresh breakfast provisions and a cleanly swept courtyard.
 
Leanne provides excellent service, peace of mind. She is very professional in her approach. We knew our home would be in good hands. We will certainly employ Leanne again and can highly recommend her services.

Be Quick!  I still have a few open dates for January, 2017.  The dogs in my care are ghappy, and go home relaxed and well!  Here is a video clip taken this morning of 7month old Roobarb playing and enjoy the garden with 6yr old Bella.  My cavoodle, Daisy, is lurking in the kitchen.  Sadly she has pulled a ligament or muscle in her foreleg, and can't enjoy our walks or plays at the moment. I have long wanted to write a blog about animal issues, and those affecting Dogs, in particular.
So many of my dog owners talk about hot spots and itchy skin.  
Well, I have formed the opinion that Diet and what we feed our pooches can help lessen skin conditions considerably, and will contribute to better health as well.

Recently my Daisy has had some unusual health concerns.  I won't go into details here, but I have learned a lot. Part of my research came across the fact that a relative's cat stopped epileptic fits when it was taken off commercial pet food high in preservatives.  So I am trying the same for Daisy. It has only been 10 days, and her energy levels have soared.

Stay Loyal is an Australian company based here in Sydney.  I was impressed to see the information on their website, explaining optimum levels of protein etc in dog food.    Click on the  link: to read

Holiday Bookings:  Enjoy the school holidays starting end of next week: I have some  bookings already in for Christmas & January, so if you have travel plans and need your dog and/or home cared for, please book as early as you can.

Background news

Thank you all for keeping me so busy!!  Guardian Angel Concierge has had a wonderful summer, looking after properties from Hunter’s Hill to Northbridge and from Cammeray to many around Mosman!  Your referrals have been fantastic, and word-of-mouth is definitely a great boost to growing my business so thanks to everyone who has contributed in this way.

Many of my home owners have had gardens to water and needed extra care during the humidity and high heat, which seemed to start early this year (before Christmas), and kept me “topping up” your automated irrigation systems!  One of the biggest gardens didn’t have a watering system at all, so I inventively managed to multi-task various sections at the one time!

Junk mail prior to Christmas and during the January holidays was in plague proportions – quite satisfying dumping it all into paper bins; Amazing to discover how many Thai take-away menus/restaurants there are around the place!

It seems that many of my clients’ council bins got topped up with a neighbour’s overflow, what with holiday entertaining and so on. Where there was easy access to a hose they were rinsed out prior to storage.

Lots of animals were also cared for; indoor cats visited; outdoor cats brought in at night. (see pic!)

No fishtanks, goldfish hampsters or rabbits, but a wonderful assortment of dogs to walk, and many canine visitors here.  Some overnight and others for two to three weeks.  At one time I am sure my long-suffering Cavoodle Daisy looked up at me with pleading eyes as if to say “oh no, please not another visiting dog!”  She was however the perfect hostess, and I found one of the best ways to settle a new pooch in for their holiday whilst you away were on yours was with a doggie Communal Walk a couple of hours after arrival.  By day three we were striding out as a happy pack, each dog beautifully behaved.

  Dinner suit retrieved from householder’s wardrobe, together with dress shirt & studs, and sent off to France for black tie dinner!

  “Project managed” a property about to be leased out – from painters & sanders to cleaners, and general installers of wardrobes & blinds.

Watch this space!

1.    For starters:
ü  Install the best Locks available, including for windows.
ü  Have adequate motion sensor lighting on your driveway, under the eaves, and in the back garden
ü  Pre-plan for a smooth take-off and return!
         
And……..

2.    Remove your Spare Key: We all have one hidden somewhere!  If people realise you’re away they’ll look under the doormat, flowerpot, inside your shoes and won’t be fooled by the plastic rock.  (yes, we’ve all used those spots!)

3.    Newsagent: Surprisingly obvious, but many forget to cancel the newspapers…. or the newsagent forgets! Cancel or suspend your order & leave details of your subscription with Guardian Angel Concierge (nb if you placed your order through Fairfax/News Corp, they will credit/add the time away to the end of your subscription period.)

4.    Postal Mail:  Depending on the Options Package you have chosen,  several things to do:

a.    Parcel authority for me to collect on your behalf from the post office

b.    Two lists of mail  - those you'd like me to scan & email, and items just to hold for your rerturn.

5.    Home Telephone/answering machine: fast becoming a dinosaur, but many of us still have a land line, so don’t leave an outgoing message indicating your home is unattended.

6.    Email: Similarly unless a company email address, don’t leave a “vacation message” on your personal email

7.    Social Media:  Safer not to talk about your holiday plans on line, and/or restrict access to close family/friends so you can upload your photos during your travels

8.    The Fridge is best emptied of all perishables.  And, consider turning off your ice-maker, water chiller too (as an added check against water damage if it fails)

9.    Washing & Dishwasher Machine: turn taps off! Water damage is in top 10 most insurance claims!

10.  Unplug Electronics:   This avoids damage through power surges, and is cost effective to stop standby power usage.

11.  Lights on Timer:   It is practical to have at least one light or lamp on a timer, so that your home is not in complete darkness

12.  Draw the curtains:  This is debatable, but certainly window drapes facing the street should be drawn; and perhaps any particular windows which would show expensive portable electronics etc to anyone peeping in. My Rule of thumb is to draw the ones I would normally, and leave those I don’t.

13.  The Neighbours – Tell them who will be looking after your property in your absence. We recommend not asking them to manage specifics but depending on your relationship, they may offer to bring in council waste bins etc.
